When I came to know about the UrbanChennai blogger meet through a twitter message, the next thing my hands did was registering my name for the event, without a second thought, as there hasn’t been a bloggers meet for more than 2 years since the AmbiPur Blogger’s meet.
The moment I reached the hotel, I met few bloggers who were present there to attend the meet. I sat on the couches and was waiting for the announcement about the registrations getting started. Feeling awkward as I came to recognise that none of the bloggers were sitting in the lobby along with me, I got up and moved towards the group. Talked with few bloggers and finally moved along with them to the hall. I was happy and comfortable as I was not made to go through a registration process. My name was just checked against the names the events team had with them. I was given a goodie bag which had the sponsor’s marketing collaterals, a t-shirt and a blogger badge. I was asked if I wanna have a photo-op with the photo-booth in the background.
Inside the hall, I found a giant screen displaying the tweets from the bloggers seated inside the hall. The event started with a rapid fire round, where the host was questioning the participants, where the names were handpicked through lots. I was cheering when other’s names were called, I was cheering and shouting and encouraging them. But time always has its say finnaly. My name too was called. Luckily I answered the question and was gifted a 8GB pen drive, a solace to a mind, whose body has destructed a pen drive just a couple of hours before.
Tambola..I initially thought this is gonna be a music performance or a kinda musical activity by the participants. I was wrong. But i took home a valuable knowledge about an activity / game, where its all about numbers and luck. And i wasn’t lucky. Lost my sheet initially and then was given another sheet and still missed the prize because of my reluctance to run forward to announce that I got a full-house.
After the tambola, I should say I was in for a surprise. Been a long time that i been to stand up comedy, the last being 2 years before that was hosted by Evam. And of-course a stand-up comedy act in a blogger’s meet was indeed quite a surprise. Shyam from Enna Da Rascala from The Stray Factory really made the audience go excited and laughing with his extra-ordinary standup comedy skills.
The, we had Mr. Abhishek Mehta, the Managing director of Urban Tree speaking on how Urban Tree was different from other property developers in Chennai. I had to go out to attend a call, and i had to miss his speech a bit. But I got inspired by his quote and his principle he uses in his business venture, “when you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear”. I felt I can take home a valuable lesson from a successful entrepreneur. He delivered a frank and an open speech which most builders generally don’t do. I appreciated his idea of accepting the challenges and trying the best to overcome those challenges.
We later came to know that new groups were supposed to be formed based on the colour of the badge we had with us and later to perform an adzap. Our group’s name was team Oxygen, where Oxygen is the name of one of the properties of Urban Tree. Infact all the four teams that were formed were named after the UrbanTree’s properties, namely, Oxygen, Wow, Infinity, and oops i forgot the fourth team’s name.
And yeah, there came the time for the organizers to announce the awards. The awards were given in the categories of best blogger / best blog / best tweet during the event and the best adzap team. And our team of-course won the best team award.
Folks, you gotta believe that stomach too got ears. The moment the tea time was announced my stomach started pulling me towards the tables where the tea and snacks were served. Chatted with few friends and at same time feeling that as if im listening to greek and latin [some bloggers were talking about their common interest topics]. I felt kinda odd at the place and moved through the standing crowd feeling comfortable to find few of my old friends and people from my team and there I was chatting with them.
Altogether, it was a memorable evening, and I was feeling indeed happy with gaining more blogger friends in the meet. Thanks to Echovme and UrbanTree for arranging such an awesome networking event for bloggers. I am looking forward to the next Chennai meet very eagerly.
