My visit to Chennai Book Fair

Today I had the chance to visit the Chennai Book fair organized by BAPASI (Booksellers and publishers association of south India). The event sees its 38th edition in Chennai.

The event was inaugurated on January 8th 2015. the book fair is being held at YMCA college of physical education, Nandanam, Chennai. The book fair will happen in Chennai till 21st of this month.

Even before I entered the stall space, I could judge the crowd as I had ride long distance inside to park my bike..I could already see lots of bikes parked from which I estimated the crowd to be of 1000's, not adding the visitors coming through public transportation..

There are 662 stalls covering all the genre of books from novels, self development n motivational to competitive exams..

The most known publishers to me like jaico, sura etc had their stalls..It takes long time for one to visit all the stalls and browse all the stalls..but for a casual visitor this gonna be an haunting task, but for d person who knows what he/she wants, she can find d rite book stall n get wt they want..

Major media n publishing houses like hindu, exp, vasan (vikatan group), suriyan etc too have their stalls in dis expo, with their publications on wide variety of topics..

The most noted thing is that I was also able to find stalls of lending libraries, which for me was totally a new experience..and I personally feel that's a nice and an innovative marketing technique by d lending library owners.

Suresh, one of d visitor says "the fair is a boon for all the book lovers to check out all the titles in all possible genres and what else they can also get their favourite books at discounted prices"

Nothing comes for free in this world n especially worthy events like this..yeah, you have to pay an entry fee to get inside the fair..but don't worry..the tickets priced at 10 rs per day or 50 rs for all d days, I could find it as a very cheap gift for any book lover in the city..

The event organizers also thought about the basic needs for the visitors such as the toilet facilities n food stalls..

Even though the books serves as food for thought, the big food court at the very entrance serves as a place for the food to serve the stomachs of the visitors..

Overall, the book fair as per my opinion is a boon for the book lovers of Chennai. The event caters to the needs of all people of the city ranging from school and college students, fiction lovers and also people preparing for competitive exams.

And I’m signing off with this, and also wishing all the Tamil people out there a very prosperous Pongal..
